Bird Box II
Experiential Campaign
About: Bird box II is a simulated pop-up experience based off the Netflix film, Bird Box. By focusing on three of our five senses, sight, sound, and touch, volunteers are able to experience the pressure of what it’s like to be in the movie. This pop-up will partner with movie theaters as a mutual benefit bringing traffic to the theater and promoting the second movie. Each participant is blind-folded and given 10 - 15 minutes to complete the challenge. Speakers are placed throughout the pop-up to heighten the experience and a speaker at the end will play a chirping noise, giving direction to the blindfolded volunteer. Space volunteers will run throughout the pop-up to increase suspense and change the layout after each participant. At the end of the experience, a space volunteer will remove the participants blindfold and play a never-before-seen trailer of Bird Box II.
The outside of the space will have a live feed (available online) displayed on a flat screen for theater visitors to view. The video, displayed below, will also play on social media.
Problem: Creating a pop-up that was challenging, yet evoked trepidation in the participants. Finding a way to incorporate as many elements of the film as possible, it was a challenge to forumlate all the areas of the pop-up that wouldn’t hurt the volunteer but make it exciting.
Solution: Understand the environment in which the film took place and attempt to replicate that within the pop-up. Movable trees are placed throughout the space which makes it easier on the crew to change up the layout.
